[Entrevista] James Newman: "A final do próximo ano pode ser no norte de Inglaterra!"

Vencedos dos Brit Awards e mais conhecido por ser compositor para muitos dos maiores nomes da música atual, James Newman está agora a começar a sua carreira de cantor. A Eurovisão é mais um passo nessa carreira e "Embers" parece ser, unanimemente, a proposta britânica mais bem aceite pelos eurofãs dos últimos anos.

ESC 38N: Todos nós já ouvimos algumas das músicas que compuseste para na rádio, mas a maioria de nós não sabia que também eras cantor antes do anúncio do ano passado. Qual é a maior diferença entre escrever para outros e para ti? Qual o processo mais fácil?

James Newman (JN): São coisas diferentes. Ao escrever para mim, tenho de me focar na minha visão como artista. Ao escrever para outros, tenho de me colocar no lugar de outra pessoa.

ESC 38N: O documentário "Eurovision 2020: The Cancelled Coronavirus Year" deixou-nos todos em lágrimas ou perto disso. Conseguimos ver como ficaste mal depois de saberes do cancelamento. Quando é que soubeste que ias voltar e qual foi a tua reação? 

JN: Bem, foi no verão passado que descobri. Fui a uma reunião na minha editora discográfica e disseram-me que tinha sido convidado novamente. Fiquei tão feliz.

ESC 38N: "Embers" é muito diferente da música do ano passado e do EP que lançaste em 2020. Foi sempre a ideia fazer algo mais ritmado ou houve a opção de voltar com outra balada? 

JN: Obviamente, antes da pandemia, vivíamos em tempos diferentes. Uma balada fazia sentido. Mas depois daquilo que estamos a passar, queria dar aos fãs algo animado para dançarem. 

ESC 38N: O Reino Unido não costuma ter os melhores resultados mas a tua canção parece ser, unanimemente, aquela que os fãs consideram melhor dos últimos anos. Achas que podes ter o melhor resultado do país dos últimos anos?

JN: Acredito no poder da manifestação. Quem sabe? A final do próximo ano pode ser no norte de Inglaterra!

ESC 38N: O que podemos esperar da tua atuação? No ano passado havia planos ambiciosos. Podemos esperar algo impactante, ou vais apostar em algo mais simples? 

JN: Obviamente não posso dizer muito sobre a atuação porque é segredo. Mas tenho vindo a praticar os meus dance moves!

ESC 38N: Costumas seguir a Eurovisão? Se sim, podes dizer-nos algumas das tuas músicas preferidas? 

JN: Vi a Eurovisão toda a minha vida, mas só agora me estou a aperceber do quão gigante este evento é e o quanto significa para as pessoas. Adoro o Måns Zelmerlöw, a Conchita Wurst, a Loreen e a Anouk.

ESC 38N: Sabemos que ouvir pelo menos algumas canções deste ano. Tens uma favorita? 

JN: Gosto muito da Leslie da Irlanda. Temos falado. Mal posso esperar para conhecer toda a gente. 

ESC 38N: O que podemos esperar de ti depois da Eurovisão? Podemos esperar um álbum?

JN: Sim! O meu próximo single está pronto. O meu álbum deve estar pronto até ao final do ano. Espero poder fazer uma tour e cantar para os fãs. 

ESC 38N: Finalmente, gostavas de deixar uma mensagem para os nossos leitores e explicar porque devemos votar em ti? 

JN: Muito obrigado pelo apoio. Obrigado por me acolherem no mundo eurovisiva de braços abertos. Prometo que vou dar um espetáculo fantástico e, se concordarem, votem em mim.

Winner of the Brit Awards and mostly known as a songwriter for some of the biggest names in the music industry right now, James Newman is now flying solo and building his own singing career. Eurovision is one more step into that goal and "Embers" seems to be the best-accepted UK song by eurofans in a very long time.

ESC 38N: We all have heard some of the songs you have written on the radio but most of us didn't know you as a singer prior to last year's announcement. What is the biggest difference between writing songs for others and for yourself? Which one is easier?

James Newman (JN): They’re both different. Writing for yourself, you have to focus on your vision as an artist. Writing for others, you have to put yourself in other people’s shoes.

ESC 38N: The documentary "Eurovision 2020: The Cancelled Coronavirus Year" left us all in tears or close to. We could see how devastated you were because of this cancellation. When did you know you were coming back in 2021 and how was your reaction to this re-invitation?

JN: Well it was last summer that I found out. I went for a meeting with my record label and they told me I’d been re-invited. I was so excited.

ESC 38N: "Embers" is quite different from last's year's entry and from your 2020 EP (that I love btw). Was it always the main idea to do something with more rhythm or was there an option to go with another ballad-style song?

JN: Obviously before the pandemic, we were living in different times. A ballad made sense. But after everything we’ve been through, I wanted to give the fans something uplifting to dance to.

ESC 38N: The UK doesn't usually get the best results at Eurovision yet your song seems to be the one that appeals to the fans the most from the past few years. Do you think you can grab the best UK result in a while? 

JN: I’m a true believer in manifestation. Who knows? Next year’s final could be in the north of England!

ESC 38N: What can we expect from your performance? Last year there were big plans. Can we expect something big this year too or are you going with something simpler?

JN: Obviously I can’t say much about the staging because it’s a secret. I have been practising my dance moves though, so watch this space!

ESC 38N: Do you usually follow Eurovision? If so, can you list some of your favourite Eurovision moments and songs?

JN: I have watched Eurovision throughout my life, but I’m only just realising how big it is, how much it means to so many people. I love Måns Zelmerlöw, Conchita Wurst, Loreen and Anouk.

ESC 38N: We know you've heard (at least some of) this year's songs. Do you have a favorite or favorites you can tell us about?

JN: I really like Leslie from Ireland. We’ve been chatting. I can’t wait to meet everyone in real life.

ESC 38N: What can we expect from you after Eurovision? Can we expect an album?

JN: Yes! My next single is ready to go. My album should be ready by the end of the year. Hopefully, I’ll get to go on tour and play for all the fans.

ESC 38N: Finally, would you like to leave a message to our readers and let them know why they should vote for you in May?

JN: Thanks so much for the support. Thank you for welcoming me into the Eurovision world with open arms. I promise I’m going to put on such an amazing show - if you agree, please vote for me.

[Entrevista] Destiny: "o meu país tem o histórico de ser penalizado no televoto"

Tem estado atualmente na dianteira das várias casas de apostas, que têm colocado "Je Me Casse" como a canção favorita a vencer a Eurovisão 2021. Já o ano passado, Destiny esteve perto de estar no topo das preferências dos variados apostadores. Com uma vitória na Eurovisão Júnior já no seu currículo, e passagem por múltiplos programas de televisão, a jovem de 18 anos é um talento promissor de Malta, mas com um objetivo bem delineado para o ESC deste ano: divertir-se e aproveitar ao máximo esta festa da música!

ESC 38N: O que é que se sente com este regresso à Eurovisão? Já tiveste uma primeira experiência por estes palcos, na Eurovisão Júnior de 2015. Claro que, mais de cinco anos depois, muita coisa mudou. A questão da maturidade pode estar a trazer mais nervos agora, ou por outro lado, sentes-te mais confiante com esta participação?

Destiny: Verdade seja dita, quando se trata de competições de maior ou menor escala, e em que é necessário mostrar o meu talento, foco-me essencialmente em três coisas: divertir-me, fazer novas amizades, e dar o meu melhor, sabendo que o que vem depois disso já é valor acrescentado. Embora, claro, me sinta com uma maior maturidade e também mais experiente agora, sendo que, mesmo assim, esses três valores fundamentais ainda são o que me impulsiona a estar aqui, a desfrutar o que estou a fazer, e a tentar demonstrar um ótimo desempenho, para as pessoas apreciarem.

ESC 38N: Depois do cancelamento do Festival em 2020, foste novamente selecionada pela emissora do teu país enquanto representante. Já era uma coisa que estavas à espera, ou houve um período de tempo em que sentiste mais receio, sem saber qual seria a decisão final?

D: Há várias coisas que vão para além de nós, e essa decisão era uma delas. Também mantive o pensamento de que me devia preocupar apenas com as coisas que conseguimos controlar, porque se há algo que não está nas nossas mãos, é inútil estarmos preocupados com isso. O que posso dizer é que estou bastante grata pela emissora me ter escolhido novamente, e estou pronta para fazer o melhor e dar o meu máximo, para deixar toda a equipa orgulhosa.

ESC 38N: Penso que podemos assumir que és uma amante da competição! 'Festival Júnior de Sanremo', 'Eurovisão Júnior', 'Britain's Got Talent', 'Factor X Malta', e agora, finalmente, 'Eurovisão 2021'! E isto apenas para nomear alguns. Poderá significar que tu és uma pessoa realmente aficionada a este tipo de competições, ou encaras estes programas como uma plataforma necessária a atingir certos objetivos? É expectável podermos encontrar-te em mais programas televisivos destes géneros?

D: Estes conteúdos são formatos com provas dadas sobre o seu sucesso, em vários países também. E não servem apenas para demonstrar o talento de cada um, mas para ajudar os seus participantes a tornarem-se verdadeiros artistas. Isso por si só tem um valor inestimável. Além disso, formatos como o 'Factor X' contam com um ótimo suporte de background, dado pelos mentores, que ajudam muito cada participante a continuar a evoluir, a conhecer alguns truques da indústria, e a dar o seu melhor. Honestamente, sou grata por ter feito parte de vários destes programas, e recomendo-os a todas as pessoas que se interessam pela área. Toda esta bagagem só os vai tornar pessoas melhores, e com novos amigos e ideias.

ESC 38N: Como descreves 'Je Me Casse', a canção eurovisiva de 2021? E qual foi a principal ideia por detrás da apresentação de um título em francês?

D: Empoderamento feminino e o facto de, infelizmente, as mulheres continuarem a ser percebidas pela sociedade (consciente e/ou inconscientemente) como um sexo mais fraco. Isso não é verdade, e se olharmos para todas as mulheres ao nosso redor que fizeram história, de uma forma ou de outra, percebemos que com pouco poder e coragem, todas somos capazes de alcançar a grandeza! A mensagem é, por isso, para todas as mulheres que lutam, mas que sentem dificuldades em estarem à altura dos desafios, ou mesmo de realizarem os seus sonhos. Sobre o título em francês... é uma resposta que só os compositores do tema podem dar :)).

ESC 38N: O que podemos esperar da performance em palco? Depois do cancelamento do ano passado, não chegámos a ter a oportunidade de ver o que é que tu e a tua equipa estavam a preparar para o palco de Roterdão. Apesar disso, haverá alguma coisa inicialmente pensada para a atuação de 2020 que se irá transladar para a apresentação de 'Je Me Casse', ou será tudo diferente?

D: Os segredos existem para serem guardados :)).

ESC 38N: Quais são as maiores expectativas para a Eurovisão? Ter a oportunidade de aproveitar tudo isto da melhor forma possível, com todos os outros concorrentes, ou estás a encarar esta participação de forma séria, com o sentido de dares ao teu país o melhor resultado possível?

D: Como já pude referir, estou essencialmente focada em me divertir ao máximo, em fazer novas amizades, e em dar 100% em palco. O que acontece depois disso, ou a forma como as pessoas têm reagido à canção, e o lugar que as casas de apostas me têm dado, tudo isso é valor acrescentado. E para dizer a verdade, todos nós sabemos o quão pequena é a ilha de Malta, e como o meu país tem o histórico de ser mais penalizado com o televoto, que às vezes nos dá alguns 'dissabores', então acho que não vou para a competição com muitas esperanças, e penso que era isso o que todos deviam seguir.

ESC 38N: Costumas acompanhar a Eurovisão? Se sim, podes nomear algumas das tuas canções favoritas e outros momentos que recordes desta competição?

D: A Eurovisão é aquela semana especial em que todos estamos unidos enquanto continente (e além... Olá, Austrália). Vejo a Eurovisão também como um evento que consegue unir várias famílias em casa, em frente à televisão. Eu adoro tudo isso, e gosto de cumprir essa tradição. De facto, este ano vou sentir falta de estar a assistir ao evento com a minha família, a discutir as músicas, e a aproveitar essas três noites todos juntos. Claro, também tenho vários momentos memoráveis da Eurovisão, e cada ano tem o seu 'momento' - há vários para mencionar, mas preciso destacar 'Fairytale' de Alexander Rybak, 'Heroes' de Måns Zelmerlöw, e a canção 'Soldi' de Mahmood.

ESC 38N: Vou assumir que já ouviste (nem que seja algumas) das canções deste ano. Tens alguma favorita que já nos possas mencionar?

D: Já escutei todas as canções, mas sinto que não sou ninguém para as julgar. Eu sei o quão difícil é chegar a este nível de estarmos a representar o nosso próprio país num lugar como o Festival da Eurovisão, portanto é apenas justo eu dizer que todas as músicas têm o seu fator diferenciador, e que aprecio todas de formas diferentes.

ESC 38N: O que podemos esperar da Destiny depois da Eurovisão? Podemos aguardar por um álbum, por exemplo?

D: Continuarei a trabalhar para dar a melhor versão de mim, e depois logo se vê, mas sim, continuar a minha viagem enquanto artista está no topo da lista.

ESC 38N: Para terminar, gostarias de deixar uma mensagem aos nossos leitores, mencionando porque é que eles deveriam votar em ti já em maio?

D: Olá, Portugal! Espero que estejam todos bem. Muito obrigado pelo vosso grande apoio, e obrigado ao site ESC 38N por dar aos artistas como eu a oportunidade de responder a várias questões. Tudo isto nos ajuda, e se gostarem mesmo da minha canção, como acredito que sim, por favor ajudem o meu pequeno país a fazer história e a ganhar a Eurovisão pela primeira vez!

She has currently been at the forefront of the various bookmakers, which have placed "Je Me Casse" as the favorite song to win the Eurovision 2021. Last year, Destiny was also close to being at the top of the preferences of various punters. With a victory in Junior Eurovision already on her resume, and passing through multiple television programs, the 18-year-old is a promising talent from Malta, but with a well-designed goal for this year's ESC: having fun and enjoying the most of this party from music!

ESC 38N: What are the main feelings on being back to Eurovision? You had a first experience back in 2015 at Junior Eurovision. Of course, more than 5 years later, a lot of things have changed. Maturity has given you more nerves now, or do you feel even more confident with this participation?

Destiny: Truth be told, when it comes to such big and small events in which I need to showcase my talent, I always focus on three things - having a good time, make new friends and give my very best, what happens afterwards is all an added value. Whilst, yes, I am more mature and I am more experienced, those three core values are still what drive me to perform, enjoy what I’m going and deliver a great performance for people to enjoy.

ESC 38N: After the 2020 show’s cancellation, you were again selected by the Maltese broadcaster to represent your country. Did you always expect that, or there was a period of time with more fear, without knowing what would be the final outcome?

D: Some things are beyond us and that decision was one of them. I also thought myself that one should worry about things one can control, if something is not in your hands, than its useless worrying about it. What I can say is that I am grateful that the broadcaster has chosen me again and I will do my very best and give it my all to make them proud.

ESC 38N: I think we can assume you are a competition lover! ‘Sanremo Junior’, ‘Junior Eurovision’, ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, ‘X Factor Malta’, and now, finally, ‘Eurovision’! Just to name a few. This all means that you are a person that really enjoys these sort of shows, or do you face them as a needed platform to achieve your goals? Is it likely to find you at more TV programmes like those mentioned?

D: These formats are formats that have proven to work over and over again and in many countries too. They not only showcase the best of talents but also help an individual shape him or herself into an artist. That in itself has a priceless value. Apart from this, formats like X Factor have a great mentorship programme that really help an artist keep evolving, get to know the tricks of the industry and give his or her very best. I am honestly grateful to have been part of all these shows and recommend to all the people who are interested in the industry to take part in these shows, it will only make them a better person, with lots of new friends and new ideas.

ESC 38N: How do you describe ‘Je Me Casse’? And what was the main idea of having the title of the song in french?

D: Empowerment and the fact that unfortunately enough, women tend to be perceived by society (consciously and unconsciously)  as a weaker sex. That is not true and if we take a look at the women around us who made history in some way or another, we realise that with little empowerment and guts, women will achieve greatness. The message is of course to all women out there who are struggling and finding it difficult to rise to the occasion and make their dreams come true. Re. the French title, I guess you have to ask the authors about it :)).

ESC 38N: What can we expect from your performance? Since last year’s cancellation, we had no chances to see what you and your team were preparing for the Rotterdam stage. Even though that, are there any things from 2020 that will be translated for your performance of ‘Je Me Casse’, or everything will be different from what was prepared in the past?

D: Secrets are there to be kept :))

ESC 38N: What are you looking forward to the most at Eurovision? Having the chance of enjoying it the best way possible, with all other participants, or are you facing this participation seriously, in a sense of giving your country the best result possible?

D: As already stated I am focused on having a good time, making new friends and giving my 100% on stage. What happens after and how people and bookmakers place me is an added value. Truth be told we all know how tiny Malta is and how televoting gives us a hard time so I’m not really getting my hopes up and so should all of you out there.

ESC 38N: Do you usually follow Eurovision? If so, can you list some of your favourite Eurovision moments and songs?

D: Eurovision is that week where we unite together as one continent (and beyond… hello Australia). I think Eurovision is also that event that manages to unite families in their homes. I’m loving all of this and would do it again, but this year I’m going to miss being with my family discussing songs and enjoying those three nights together. Of course I have many memorable moments from Eurovision and each and every year has ‘the moment’ - there are too many to mention but one has to mention Alexander Rybak’s ‘Fairytale', Mans Zalmerlow ‘Heroes’ and Mahmood’s ‘Soldi’.

ESC 38N: I will assume that you've already heard (at least some of) this year's songs. Do you have a favorite or favorites you can tell us about?

D: I heard all songs and I honestly believe that I am no judge. I know how hard it is to arrive to the level of representing your country on a platform like Eurovision so its only fair to say that all songs have a unique selling point and I enjoy them all in their own way.

ESC 38N: What can we expect from you after Eurovision? Can we wait for an album, for example?

D: Will keep working hard to bring the best version of myself and then we’ll see, but yes, continuing my journey as an artist is on top of the list.

ESC 38N: Finally, would you like to leave a message to our portuguese readers and let them know why they should vote for you in May?

D: Hello Portugal, I hope you are all ok. Thank you so much for your support and thanks ESC38N for giving artists like me the opportunity to answer these questions. All this keeps us going and if you like my song so much, which I’m sure you do please help tiny Malta make history and win the Eurovision for the first time!

[Entrevista] Blind Channel: "a atuação será intensa, explosiva e extremamente enérgica"

Blind Channel venceram o Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK) 2021 e vão representar a Finlândia na edição deste ano da Eurovisão, com"Dark Side". O guitarrista da banda rock, Joonas Porko, falou-nos um pouco sobre o grupo, sobre a participação no Festival e sobre projetos futuros.

ESC 38N: Como é que se conheceram? Como começou a banda?

Joonas Porko, guitarrista dos Blind Channel (JP): Estudámos todos na mesma escola. O Joel (vocalista) e eu (Joonas, guitarrista) fazíamos parte de bandas diferentes e éramos como "rivais". Numa eventualidade, acabámos por fazer música juntos. 

O Olli (baixista) e o Tommi (baterista) eram meus colegas de banda, e conhecemos o Niko (vocalista) numa house party, onde começámos a falar sobre música e sobre a vida. No dia a seguir à festa, estávamos de ressaca, mas tivemos os primeiros ensaios dos Blind Channel. 

O membro mais recente, Aleksi, juntou-se a nós no outono passado, e temos muita sorte em tê-lo connosco.

ESC 38N: Quando se inscreveram no UMK, já estavam a pensar na vitória e em ir ao Festival Eurovisão? Alguma vez tinham sonhado em participar na Eurovisão?

JP: Somos aquele tipo de pessoas que, quando se inscrevem em algo, fazem de tudo para atingir o objetivo pretendido. Somos um grupo trabalhador e temos uma boa canção, então o resto é apenas o que vier. Sendo uma banda de rock, nunca pensámos sobre a Eurovisão, para ser sincero, mas agora sentimos que era o momento certo para isso.

ESC 38N: "Dark Side" foi a vossa primeira escolha para o UMK ou pensaram noutra canção?

JP: Tínhamos algumas boas demos, mas "Dark Side" pareceu-nos uma escolha certa e natural, por ser 100% uma canção do estilo Blind Channel.

ESC 38N: Como é que descrevem "Dark Side"?

JP: "Dark Side" é cativante como um pop hit e pesado como um motim prisional. É definitivamente um hino para as pessoas que estão frustradas e irritadas por algum motivo, e é para as pessoas que querem levantar o dedo do meio e gritar com os pulmões. Bem-vindos à festa do 'lado negro' - todas as bebidas são por nossa conta!

ESC 38N: Têm alguma ideia de como será a vossa atuação na Eurovisão? Será semelhante à atuação no UMK ou podemos esperar um fator surpresa?

JP: Não podemos revelar muito, mas prometemos que a atuação será intensa, explosiva e extremamente enérgica. Claro que temos um ás na manga. ;)

ESC 38N: Costumam ver a Eurovisão? Qual é vossa música favorita de sempre?

JP: Quando éramos crianças, costumávamos ver a Eurovisão. Hoje em dia não acompanhamos a competição com grande frequência, mas é claro que ficamos sempre atentos. O nosso tema favorito de sempre é "Euphoria", da Loreen. É um banger!!

ESC 38N: E deste ano? Qual é a vossa música favorita?

JP: Não quero ser arrogante ou algo do género, mas "Dark Side", com certeza. :) Estamos 100% concentrados nas nossas coisas, então ainda não ouvimos muito dos outros participantes.

ESC 38N: Måneskin, representantes da Itália, também vão participar com uma canção rock... Estão com medo da concorrência?!

JP: Achamos que é um grande favor para a música rock ter outra banda de rock este ano. O grupo italiano é muito bom e esperamos encontrá-los em Roterdão. Confiamos em nós próprios, por isso não nos preocupamos com nada.

ESC 38N: Há um ano, lançaram o álbum "Violent Pop". Já estão a pensar num novo álbum? Quais são os vossos projetos para o futuro?

JP: Temos planos muito bons para depois do ESC, e sim - podemos prometer um novo álbum para o próximo ano, e será doentio! Também vamos lançar novas músicas no final deste ano.

ESC 38: Querem deixar alguma mensagem para os fãs portugues?

JP: Muito obrigado a todos os que ouviram a nossa música! Mal podemos esperar para tocar em Portugal e ver-vos ao vivo!

Blind Channel won Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK) 2021 and will represent Finland at Eurovision 2021, with the song "Dark Side". The rock band guitarist, Joonas Porko, told us a little more about the group, their participation in the Festival, and their future projects. 

ESC 38N: How did you guys meet? How did the Blind Channel band start?

Blind Channel's guitarist, Joonas Porko (JP): We all went to the same high school back in the days. Joel (vocals) and me (Joonas - guitar) had our former bands and we were like "rivals" with each other. Eventually we ended up making music together. Olli (bass) and Tommi (drums) were my former band mates and then we found Niko (vocals) from a random house party where we started to talk about the same kind of music and life itself. Next day we had a hangover but also the first rehearsals of Blind Channel. The newest member Aleksi joined us last fall and we're so lucky to have him on board.

ESC 38N: When you signed up for UMK, were you already thinking about winning and going to the Eurovision Song Contest? Have you ever dreamed of participating in the Eurovision Contest?

JP: We're that type of guys that if we sign up for something then we're doing everything to achieve the goal we're aiming for. We are a hardworking group and we have a good song so the rest is just all about the things outside from that. As a rock band we really haven't ever thought about the whole Eurovision thing to be honest but now it felt that the time would be right for that.

ESC 38N: Was "Dark Side" your first choice for UMK or did you think of another song?

JP: We had a couple of great demos as another choice but "Dark Side" just felt like a right and natural choice for this cause it's 100% Blind Channel song.

ESC 38N: How do you describe "Dark Side"?

JP: "Dark Side" is catchy as a pop hit and heavy like a prison riot. It's definitely an anthem for the people who are frustrated and pissed off for some reason and it's for the people who want to raise their middle fingers up in the air and scream their lungs out. ESC 38N: Do you have any idea of how it's going to be your performance on the contest? Will it be similar to your performance on UMK or will there be a surprise factor?

JP: We can't reveil much but we promise that the show will be intensive, exploding and extremely energetic. Of course we have an ace up our sleeve. ;)

ESC 38N: Do you usually follow Eurovision? What's your favorite song of all time?

JP: As kids we used to watch Eurovision. Nowadays we haven't followed the competition that often but of course we've always kept our eyes open. Our absolute favorite is Euphoria by Loreen. That's a banger!!

ESC 38N: What's your favorite song from this year's contest?

JP: Not to be cocky or anything but "Dark Side" for sure. :) We're focusing 100% on our own thing so we haven't heard much from the other contestants yet.

ESC 38N: Måneskin, from Italy, will also participate with a rock song... Are you afraid of the competition?!

JP: We think it is a huge favor to the whole rock music scene to have another rock band this year. This Italian group was pretty good and we hope we're able to meet them in Rotterdam. We trust our own thing so we're not worrying about anything.

ESC 38N: A year ago, you released your album "Violent Pop". Are you already thinking about releasing a new album? Do you have any new projects for the future?

JP: We have really good plans after ESC and yes - we can promise you a new album for next year and it will be sick! New music is also coming up later this year.

ESC 38: Can you please leave a few words to your portuguese fans...

JP: Thank you so much to everyone who have listened to our song! We can't wait to get to play in Portugal and see you all live!

[Entrevista] The Black Mamba: "As duas músicas mais votadas foram músicas em inglês"

 

Os nossos representantes deste ano estiveram à conversa connosco, via zoom, sobre a Eurovisão 2021.

Entre outras coisas, Pedro Tatanka, Miguel Casais e Rui Pedro Pity, falaram connosco sobre a participação no Festival da Canção, a vitória inesperada, a polémica sobre o inglês e, claro, a história por trás da letra da música.

Houve também tempo para falar sobre as expetativas para a Eurovisão, as músicas preferidas no concurso deste ano, o staging e a gravação de backup feita já de madrugada, após a vitória no Festival da Canção.

No final, falámos também sobre uma possível celebração em Roterdão da vitória do Sporting no campeonato nacional e do cabelo do vocalista e compositor de "Love is on my side" que, citando Conan Osíris, nosso representante em 2019, é "fucking amazing". A entrevista completa pode ser vista abaixo.
