[Entrevista] Tamara Todevska: "disse que sim porque me sinto mais madura e com muito mais para dizer"

Tamara Todevska subirá ao palco da Eurovisão pela segunda para representar a Macedónia com "Proud" depois de já o ter feito em 2008 com "Let Me Love You" e quase se ter qualificado para a final. Será que é desta que consegue o desejado lugar?

Crónicas de Eurofestivais (CE): Conta-nos um pouco sobre ti. Como é que a música apareceu na tua vida?

Tamara Todevska (TT): Faço isto desde os seis anos e, por acaso, uma das principais razões pelas quais faço o que faço é a Eurovisão. Tinha seis anos quando vi a Carola ganhar a Eurovisão em 1991 e lembro-me de dizer aos meus pais: "um dia vou ser como ela". Toda a minha vida estive rodeada de música. A minha mãe é cantora de ópera e o meu pai é professor na academia de música de Skopje. E tenho a certeza que a maioria de vocês conhece a minha irmã Tijana que representou o nosso país na Eurovisão em 2014 com a música "To The Sky".

CE: Costumas seguir a Eurovisão? O que achas do concurso? Tens alguma música preferida? 

TT: A Eurovisão sempre esteve presente na minha vida e, para mim, é muito mais que um festival de música. A Eurovisão é sobre aceitar o que é diferente, desafiar a normalidade e ser orgulhoso de quem somos da maneira que somos. A Eurovisão é aquela noite no ano em que o continente inteiro se junta para celebrar os laços e a individualidade. É o lugar onde ser diferente é ser orgulhoso.

Houve muitas boas músicas e muito bons artistas na Eurovisão e todos eles, de certa forma, me definiram enquanto artistas e pessoa. Se tivesse de escolher apenas uma música, e é apenas pela carga emocional que tem para mim, seria definitivamente "Fångad av en Stormvind" da Carola. Ver a atuação dela foi um momento decisivo na minha vida e na minha carreira. 

CE: Como te sentiste quando recebeste o convite para voltar à Eurovisão? Aceitaste-o logo ou tiveste de pensar sobre o assunto?

TT: Tinha acabado de ter o meu filho quando recebi o convite para representar o país na Eurovisão deste ano. Disse logo que sim principalmente porque me sinto mais madura agora, mais experiente e com muito mais para dizer.

CE: "Proud" é uma música poderosa sobre ser mulher. Além da mensagem da música, se tivesses a atenção de todas as mulheres do mundo por 5 minutos, o que lhes dirias?

TT: Sê quem queres ser e orgulha-te disso e nunca escondas o quão maravilhosa és!

CE: Esta música começa e acaba exatamente da mesma maneira: contigo a cantar "girl" suavemente. Depois dessa primeira palavra, a canção constrói-se com notas cada vez mais altas. Achas que, às vezes é assim que as mulheres precisam de ouvir conselhos para mudarem algumas situações nas suas vidas?

TT: Apesar de muitos chamarem a esta música um hino feminista, "Proud" é uma música para todos aqueles a quem disseram para baixarem a cabeça, para fazerem tudo segundo as regras da sociedade que não fazem sentido no século XXI e para todos abraçarem o quão maravilhosos são e acreditarem em si mesmos, não importa o que as pessoas à sua volta dizem.

Ao longo da canção eu quero quebrar as regras da sociedade e, pelo menos por uma noite n ano, mostrar ao mundo que o meu orgulho em mim mesma é maior que o "nunca vais ser boa o suficiente" deles!

CE: Representaste a Macedónia em 2008 e quase conseguiste a qualificação para a final. O facto de já teres pisado o palco eurovisivo é uma vantagem ou faz com estejas mais nervosa?

TT: Estar naquele palco é o momento mais mágico que um cantor pode experienciar. Quando pensas que houve tantos artistas maravilhosos a pisar aquele palco e tu foste um deles é simplesmente inacreditável. Mal posso esperar para atuar novamente.

CE: O que podemos esperar da tua atuação em Telavive?

TT: Espero ficar orgulhosa :) Tenho uma excelente equipa a trabalhar comigo e mal posso esperar pelo dia 16 de maio para vos mostrar o que estou a preparar para vocês.

CE: Já ouviste as outras músicas deste ano? Quais as tuas preferidas?

TT: Há tantas músicas maravilhosas e, de certa forma, somos todos vencedores. Atuar na Eurovisão é um sonho realizado para muitos artistas e devíamos apoiá-los todos e estar orgulhosos deles.

CE: Conta-nos sobre os teus projetos futuros...

TT: Atualmente o meu foco principal é a Eurovisão. Assim que o concurso acabe, vou trabalhar no meu terceiro álbum que estou a terminar.

Tamara Todevska is back in Eurovision for the second time with the song "Proud" after she had represented Macedonia in 2008 with "Let Me Love You". Back in 2008 she almost made it to the final. Will she be able to make it this year? 

Crónicas de Eurofestivais (CE): Tell us a little about yourself. How did music came into your life?

Tamara Todevska (TT): I have been performing since I was six years old and actually, one of the main reasons why I am doing what I am doing is because of Eurovision. I was six when I watched Carola win the Eurovision Song Contest in 1991 and I remember telling my parents – one day I will be just like her. My whole life I have been surrounded by music. My mother is an opera singer at the National Opera and my father is a professor at the Academy of Music in Skopje. And I am sure most of you know my sister Tijana, who represented our country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with the song To the Sky.

CE: Do you usually follow Eurovision? What do you think of the contest? Do you have any favorite songs?

TT: Eurovision has been ever present in my life and to me, it is so much more than a music festival. Eurovision is all about accepting the different, defying the norms and being proud of who you are, just the way you are. Eurovision is that one night in the year when the entire continent comes together to celebrate boldness, bravery and individuality. It is the place where being different means being PROUD.

There have been so many songs and so many amazing performers at Eurovision and all of them have, in a way, have defined me as an artist and as a person. If I had to pick one, and this is only because of my emotional attachment to it, it would definitely be Carola's Fångad av en Stormvind. Watching her perform was a truly defying moment in my life and my career. 

CE: How did you feel when you received the invitation to come back to Eurovision? Did you accept it right away or did you take time to think about it?

TT: I had just given birth to my son when I got the invitation to represent my country at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. I said immediately mostly because I feel that I am more mature now, more experienced and I got much more to say.

CE: "Proud" is a powerful about being a woman. Besides the message of the song itself, if you could have every women' attention for 5 minutes, what would you tell them?

TT: Be whoever you want to be and be proud of yourself and yes, never hide your greatness!

CE: This song starts and ends exactly the same way: with you singing "girl" softly. From that first word, the song builds up to higher and higher notes. Do you believe, sometimes, this how women need to hear some advices in order to change a situation in their lives?

TT: Although many call it a feminist anthem Proud is a song for everyone that has been told to put their head down, to follow society rules that make no sense in the 21st century and to everyone embracing their greatness and believing in themselves, no matter what people around them say.  

Through the song, I want to break these society rules and at least for one night in the year to show the world that I AM PROUD is always stronger than their YOU WILL NEVER BE GOOD ENOUGH!

CE: You represented Macedonia in 2008 and almost qualified for the final. The fact that you were already on that stage is an advantage or does it make you more nervous?

TT: Being on that stage is the most magical moment that one singer can experience. When you think that so many amazing artists have graced that stage and you are one of them, it is simply unbelievable. I really cannot wait to perform again. 

CE: What can we expect from your stage performance in Tel Aviv?

TT: I expect you to be PROUD 😊 I have great team working with me and I cannot wait for May 16th to come so we can show you what we have prepared for you. 

CE: Have you heard any of the other songs competing this year? Which ones are your favorite?

TT: There are so many amazing songs this year and, in a way, we are all winners. Performing at Eurovision is a dream come true for many artists and we should support and be proud of all of them.

CE: Tell us about your future projects… Anything exciting coming up?

TT: Currently my main focus is the Eurovision Song Contest. Once that is over, I will work on finishing off my third album.

TT: I encourage everyone to vote for the song they love the most. If Proud is one of them, thank you for that.
