TATIANA HEGHEA – "A BRIGHTER DAY"

8º lugar no O Melodie Pentru Europa 2013

      Embora não seja das minhas preferidas das várias finais nacionais, tinha necessariamente de trazer “A Brighter Day” para esta iniciativa. E porquê? Como presumo que todos saibam, esta música foi composta por dois portugueses, Vasco Cardoso e Ruben Pacheco, que merecem o nosso aplauso por não terem baixado os braços com a saída infeliz da RTP e levaram o seu projeto para outras paragens.

     Trata-se de uma canção pop sem nada de novo, mas este género vive essencialmente do ritmo e da energia. Gosto particularmente do som da flauta que vai surgindo ao longo dos três minutos, e que torna esta proposta algo especial.

     Tatiana é uma boa cantora e portou-se muito bem em palco. Precisa, claramente, de melhorar a sua pronúncia inglesa, porque há excertos da letra que não se percebem.  A atuação foi banal mas até funcionou bem. Nos primeiros segundos, quando os ecrãs LED mostram umas asas, lembrei-me automaticamente da atuação de Charlotte Perrelli no Melodifestivalen 2012… ao menos Tatiana não comeu palavras como a sueca…

    Espero que a dupla continue a compor, contornado as adversidades que o nosso país constantemente nos impõe.

       Mais uma canção muito interessante de uma das melhores finais nacionais deste ano.

        Os Blitzkids mvt. apresentaram uma música eletro/pop com uma sonoridade retro, mas que não destoa do que se ouve hoje em dia. É comercial e podia passar em qualquer estação de rádio ou canal de televisão. Não é a típica proposta eurovisiva, nem há nada na canção nem na atuação que nos faça estabelecer a ligação com o Festival.

      A banda tem um visual irreverente, que a ajudou a sobressair das restantes participações no festival alemão. Gosto imenso do vestuário que usaram em palco. Ainda assim, podia-se eventualmente esperar uma atuação também ela arriscada e inovadora, mas o grupo limitou-se a cantar o tema, tirando o maior partido possível dos efeitos luminosos que o palco oferecia.

     “Hearts On The Line” recebeu 12 pontos do júri, tendo sido, contudo, arrasada nas votações populares (1 ponto na votação realizada pelas estações de rádio e outros 2 do televoto). De facto, a canção pecou por ser demasiado longa. Com uma versão mais compacta talvez o público tivesse gostado mais. Além disso, a música, apesar de ser interessante, não é claramente de “massas”. 

        Talvez não fosse a melhor escolha para a Eurovisão, mas merece ser apresentada nesta iniciativa.

ALYONA LANSKAYA – "RHYTHM OF LOVE"

Primeira escolha da Bielorrússia para o ESC 2013

      Mais um caso, como o da Macedónia, em que se passou de cavalo para burro. Eu não entendo por que fazem finais nacionais se nada do que o “público” escolhe vai à Eurovisão. E pior do que essa falta de respeito é o facto de substituírem as escolhas originais por outras sempre piores.       Mas desde quando é que “Solayoh”, que parece ter saído de alguma final grega da década passada, é melhor do que este “Rhythm of Love”? Alyona devia ir à Eurovisão com a canção que submeteu à final nacional, até porque, se o fez, é porque certamente se sentia mais à vontade com ela e acreditava no potencial da música.     De facto, “Rhythm Of Love” é muito mais atual do que a outra. Tem um ritmo cativante e uma apresentação em palco espetacular, ainda que sem nenhum exagero. A coreografia está muito bem pensada e é impressionante a sincronização da cantora com o conjunto de bailarinos. A voz esteve sempre no ponto, algo de deixar muitos com inveja, e gostei da atitude de Alyona em palco.       A mudança de canção é algo que dificilmente irei entender.

SHANY ZAMIR – "FOREVER"

6º lugar no Kdam 2013

      A sério que ela levou 0 pontos do júri? Impressionante, “forever” os júris farão asneira!      Israel é um país mais conservador e clássico nas canções que envia à Eurovisão, optando sempre por um boa balada, embora nos dois últimos anos tenha enviado músicas diferentes, e que resultaram em fracasso. No entanto, não teriam de ter medo em enviar Shany Zamir à Eurovisão, porque garantidamente ela passaria à final e obteria uma excelente classificação.    Ela canta muitíssimo bem e não desafina uma única vez (repare que ela entra na coreografia também). Além disso, Shany parece ser uma pessoa muito amável, transmite-nos alegria e amizade quando a vemos atuar. A performance estava muito polida e pronta para ser reproduzida no palco da Eurovisão.      A canção é forte, tem impacto, é orelhuda. O único senão é recorrer, como tantas outras, ao dubstep num dado momento. Não gosto nada. Mas de resto, a canção é internacional e tinha impacto para conquistar, pelo menos, o televoto europeu (tendo em conta que o público israelita deu a “Forever” a pontuação máxima).     Ai júris, júris…

RUI ANDRADE – "EM NOME DO AMOR"

3º lugar no Festival RTP da Canção 2011

       Porquê, RTP? Porquê, Portugal? Por que razão esperamos há já tanto tempo por uma vitória, pelo menos por uma boa classificação? Por que motivo somos quase sempre representados por algo que nos envergonha? Por que temos medo de arriscar?       O Festival RTP de 2011 foi, no meu entender, o que mais qualidade musical teve nos últimos anos. Canções fortes, bonitas, muitas delas com potencial para a Eurovisão, bons intérpretes. Paradoxalmente, foi o Festival cujos resultados se traduzem pela palavra “palhaçada”. Tenho a certeza de que houve dedo da RTP nas votações dos júris distritais. Como é possível uma canção com o nível de “Em Nome do Amor” ter recebido tantas vezes 2 pontos? Como é possível que abortos musicais como “Deixa o meu lugar” e “A Luta É Alegria” tenham conseguido mais pontos de pessoas que supostamente são “especializadas” na área da música? Não sei qual era a verdadeira intenção da RTP, mas uma coisa é certa: parecia-lhes não interessar ter uma boa canção a representar Portugal em Düsseldorf.     “Em Nome do Amor” é uma poderosíssima balada com elementos étnicos, que cresce de forma brutal e tem um final estrondoso. A letra também é bonita e tem imensa força, embora assentasse no tema já cliché do mar e dos descobrimentos.        Contudo, o melhor elemento desta proposta é claramente o seu intérprete. Rui Andrade é um cantor maravilhoso. Tem um vozeirão e uma postura em palco possante e profissional. Gosto da forma como olha para a camâra, prendendo a atenção do espetador, deixando-nos presos à história que nos quer contar.       É claro que, por muito forte que tenha sido a prestação de Rui e por mais excelente que fosse a canção, estando a concurso os Homens da Luta e a sua música (?), era mais do que normal que “Em Nome do Amor” fosse relegada para segundo lugar, e com a belíssima ajuda dada pelos especialistas, a melhor canção da noite fica apenas na 3ª posição.       É nestes momentos que tenho vergonha de ser português e vontade de nunca mais ver o Festival. Felizmente, e é isso que nos anima e nos incita a continuar, acredito que, um dia, o Rui e outras pessoas com reconhecível talento terão o seu momento para brilhar. Força!

TATIANA HEGHEA – "A BRIGHTER DAY"

8th place at O Melodie Pentru Europa 2013

      Although it is not my favorite song from the various national finals, I had obviously to bring "A Brighter Day" to “Too Close Too Far”. And why? As I assume that everyone knows, this song was composed by two Portuguese guys, Vasco Cardoso and Ruben Pacheco, who deserve our applause for not having given up with RTP’s withdraw and took their project to other places.       This is a pop song without anything new, but this kind of song lives mostly of its rhythm and energy. I particularly like the sound of the flute that emerge over the three minutes, and that makes this entry something special.      Tatiana is a good singer and did very well on stage. She clearly needs though to improve her English accent because there were moments one could not understand the lyrics. The performance was banal but worked well. In the first few seconds, when the LED screens show wings, I reminded automatically Charlotte Perrelli’s performance in Melodifestivalen 2012... at least, Tatiana hasn’t ate words like the Swedish singer did...        Hopefully the duo continues composing, dodging the hardships that Portugal constantly imposes to its people.

 

BLITZKIDS MVT. – "HEART ON THE LINE"

         Another very interesting song from one of the best national finals this year.        The Blitzkids mvt. presented an electro/pop song with a retro sound, although it does not clash with what we hear today. It's a commercial song, something that could pass on a radio station or a television channel. It’s not the typical Eurovision entry, nor is there anything in the song or the performance that we make the connection with the Festival.         The band has an irreverent look that helped them in standing out from the remaining entries in the German festival. I really like the clothing they used on stage. Still, one could possibly expect a performance too risky and innovative, but the group merely sang, taking maximum advantage of the lighting effects that the stage offered.          "Hearts On The Line" received 12 points from the jury, but was, however, crushed in the popular vote (1 point in the voting conducted by the radio stations and other 2 from the televoting). In fact, there was a problem with the song: it was too long. With a more compact version, perhaps the audience would have liked it more. Furthermore, the song, although interesting, is clearly not for the general audience.          Maybe it was not the best choice for Eurovision, but they deserve to be presented here.

ALYONA LANSKAYA – "RHYTHM OF LOVE"

First choice of Belarus for ESC 2013

       Another case like the one from Macedonia. I do not understand why national finals take place in Belarus if anything the "televoters" choose is actually going to Eurovision. And worse than this lack of respect is the fact that they always replace the original choices for something worse.        But who thinks that "Solayoh", which seems to be a refused song for some Greek national final of the last decade, is better than "Rhythm of Love"? Alyona should go to Eurovision with the song with which she participated in the national final, because if she had sent this song, is surely because she felt more comfortable with it and believed in this song’s potential.     In fact, "Rhythm Of Love" is much more current than the other. It has a catchy rhythm and a spectacular stage presentation, even without any exaggeration. The choreography is very well thought out and impressive is the synchronization of the singer with the group of dancers. The voice was always on point, something to leave many envious, and Alyona liked the attitude on stage.       The change of song is something that will hardly understand.

SHANY ZAMIR – "FOREVER"

6th place at Kdam 2013

      Seriously? She took 0 points from the jury? Remarkable, juries will mess up "forever”!    Israel is a country that sends preferentially more conservative and classic songs to Eurovision, choosing always a good ballad, although in the last two years they had sent different styles that resulted in a big failure. However, they had no reason to be afraid of sending Shany Zamir to Eurovision, because for sure she would pass to the final and would get an excellent place.      She sings very well and in tune (note that she also enters the choreography). Moreover, Shany seems to be a very kind person, she gives us joy and friendship when she acts. The performance was very polished and ready to be done on the Eurovision stage.     The song is strong and with impact. The only weakness is the use, like so many others songs this year, of dubstep. I do not like it. But still, the song is international and would win at least the European televoting (taking into account that the Israeli public has given to "Forever" the maximum score).     Juries, juries...

RUI ANDRADE – "EM NOME DO AMOR"

3rd place at Festival RTP da Canção 2011

        Why, RTP? Why, Portugal? Why are we waiting so long for a win, at least for a good position? Why are we almost always represented by something shameful? Why are we afraid to take risks?        The Festival RTP 2011 was, in my opinion, the one with more musical quality in recent years. Strong and beautiful songs, many with potential for Eurovision, good singers. Paradoxically, it was the Festival whose results can be translated by the word "bullshit". I am sure that they were manipulated by RTP, mainly in the regional jury voting. How can a song in the level of "Em Nome Do Amor" receive 2 points so often? How is it possible that musical abortion like "Deixa o meu lugar" and "A Luta É Alegria" have got more points from people who supposedly are "experts" in music? I do not know what the real intention of RTP, but one thing is certain: they were not interest in having a good song representing Portugal in Düsseldorf.         "Em Nome Do Amor" is a powerful ballad with ethnic elements, with an outstanding grow and a thunderous end. The lyrics are also beautiful and have a lot of strength, though being cliché thanks to the theme of the sea and Discoveries.        However, the best element of this entry is clearly the singer. Rui Andrade is a wonderful singer. He has a booming voice and a powerful and professional attitude on stage. I like the way he looks at the camera, holding the attention of the public, leaving us stuck to the story he is telling.       Of course, no matter how strong has been the performance and the song of Rui, with Homens da Luta and their song (?) competing, it was more than normal that "Em Nome Do Amor" has been relegated to the second place. Also the beautiful help given by the experts gave to the best song of the night only a 3rd position.        It is in these moments that I am ashamed of being Portuguese and I have the will of never watch the Festival again. Fortunately, and this is what encourages us to keep trying, I believe that, one day, Rui and many others with recognizable talent will have their time to shine. Thumbs up!
